Privacy – AdLess

Last updated: October 2026. This policy applies to the browser extension AdLess in all stores (Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons and others). For this website, the general privacy policy applies. The legally binding version is the German one.

2. In short

AdLess collects no personal data. There is no account, no telemetry, no usage statistics and no advertising. Neither I nor any third party receive data from AdLess about you, the pages you visit or your behaviour.

3. What AdLess stores on your device

AdLess stores only in the extension’s storage in your browser, on your device:

  • your settings, filter lists, own rules, hidden elements and allowlist,
  • for each open tab, the number and the addresses of blocked requests and the provider of a cookie banner it answered, so that the popup can show them. This is deleted as soon as a new page loads in the tab, the tab is closed or the browser quits.

None of this is sent to me or to third parties. You can delete everything at any time by removing AdLess. If you export your settings, a file is created on your device that only you control.

4. Access to websites

To block ads and trackers, hide elements and answer cookie banners, AdLess needs access to the websites you visit. The filter rules are applied by your browser itself. Page content AdLess reads for this is processed only locally and is neither stored nor transmitted.

5. Cookie banners

When AdLess detects a cookie banner, it clicks “reject” for you or hides the banner. AdLess itself sets no cookies; the website stores your rejection just as it would after your own click. You can switch this off under “General”.

6. Connections AdLess makes

AdLess only makes these connections, without sending any identifiers or data about you:

  • AdLess filter list: about twice a day from raw.githubusercontent.com (GitHub, Inc., USA).
  • Custom lists: filter lists you add yourself by their address are loaded from their servers.

As with any request on the internet, these servers necessarily receive your IP address and the usual browser information. For GitHub, the GitHub General Privacy Statement applies. The bundled filter lists and new versions of AdLess come through your browser’s store; the privacy policy of the respective store operator applies.

7. Report problem

Only when you click “Report problem” in the popup, AdLess opens GitHub’s report form in a new tab. Prefilled are the page address (without parameters and anchor), the AdLess version, your browser and your AdLess settings for this page. You see everything before anything is sent: it is transmitted only when you submit the report on GitHub yourself. This needs a GitHub account; reports are publicly visible and GitHub’s privacy statement applies. The legal basis for handling your report is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is fixing problems.

8. Permissions

  • Access to all websites, declarativeNetRequest: block ads and trackers.
  • scripting, userScripts: hide elements, answer cookie banners, apply filters from your own rules.
  • webRequest, webNavigation: count blocked requests per tab and list them in the popup.
  • storage, unlimitedStorage: keep settings and filter lists on your device.
  • alarms, offscreen: update and compile filter lists in the background.
  • activeTab: start the element picker in the current tab.

9. Your rights

As I receive no data about you through AdLess, there is nothing I could disclose or delete. For an e-mail to me, the sections “Contact by e-mail” and “Your rights” of the general privacy policy apply, including your right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

10. Changes

If what AdLess processes changes, I will update this policy beforehand. The date above shows the current version.
